The day after Singapore (16 February 1942) fell the Defence Committee of Australia argued that Britain should be approached on the question of Australia's importation of retaliatory stocks. Three weeks later (10 March 1942), the request to the United Kingdom was formally made. The British War Office responded that it would supply the Australian Army and Royal Australian Air Force on standard British Army and Royal Air Force scales. The Australian forces eventually agreed to the recommended scales and range of munition types.
